In this piece, I have personified my extended family as faces of playing cards. I have decided to use playing cards as they are all about strategy and in a typical Indian household, these power games result in family members slyly scheming against each other. The unspoken hierarchy is always a great matter of debate and entertainment as well. The mother-in-law who is teased as the King of the house never fails to exaggerate her hard work which has resulted in this beautiful sanctuary called ‘home’, while in reality it is the Daughter-in-law (The Knight) that actually takes care of the family. Having witnessed this within my own household I was inspired to make caricatures of my own family members to highlight this reality.
